Copper nanoparticles, in turn, are promising candidates for the development of a new class of drugs due to a combination of nanoscale physico-chemical properties and biological activity. The studies on safety and antimicrobial activity of nanostructured copper for the sake of its further introduction into clinical practice for the treatment of nosocomial infections are of great relevance. The objective of the present study was the determination of an influence of copper nanoparticles on systemic and cardiac hemodynamic indices in rabbits when administered intravenously in acute experiment. 20 nm copper nanoparticles were synthesized at F. D. Ovcharenko Institute of Biocolloidal Chemistry of NAS of Ukraine by original protocol of chemical condensation in aqueous solution method. The study was carried out on 8 Chinchilla rabbits. The test substance or the solvent were administered four times each intravenously every 30 minutes over 2 hours. Systemic and cardiac hemodynamic indices were recorded before administration and at 1, 5, 10, 20, and 30 minutes after each administration. It was found out that copper nanoparticles at doses of 4–80 mg/kg did not show a negative impact on the heart rate, the maximum left ventricular pressure, the systolic blood pressure, the diastolic blood pressure, the pulse pressure, and the mean arterial pressure. The test substance may be considered biosafe in terms of the influence on the hemodynamic indices when administered intravenously to rabbits. ER -
